Determining the Weight of the Transformer
The first step is to determine the gross weight of the transformer to be transported or installed.
This information is used to calculate the load per wheel.
For example, if a 2000 kg transformer has four wheels, each wheel is selected to carry approximately 500 kg.
Analyzing the Conditions of Use
On what surface will the wheels travel? (Flat ground, concrete, unpaved area)
Will they be used indoors or outdoors?
Environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and chemical exposure are considered.
In special cases, locking, braked, or swivel casters may be preferred.
Determining Wheel Material
Polyurethane: Quiet and surface-friendly, medium load capacity
Nylon/Plastic: Lightweight and economical, low-medium load capacity
Steel: High strength, suitable for heavy transformers
Rubber: Shock absorbing, non-slip
Wheel Size and Width Selection
Diameter: Larger diameter wheels overcome obstacles more easily.
Width: Provides good weight distribution and prevents damage to the floor.
Example: For concrete floors, a 150 mm diameter and 50 mm width is often preferred.
Mechanical Mounting Compatibility
The wheel shaft diameter and mounting method should be compatible with the transformer housing.
Braking and rotation directions are determined according to the transformer layout plan.
Calculating Load and Safety Factors
Wheel load capacity = (Transformer weight / number of wheels) × safety factor (usually 1.25–1.5).
Example: A wheel with a capacity of 500 kg × 1.5 = 750 kg is selected.
Considering Environmental Impacts
Outdoor: UV resistance and stainless steel
Temperature: High temperature tolerance for metal wheels
Chemical exposure: Oil, rain, or acid exposure
Supplier and Standard Control
Wheels should be sourced from a reliable manufacturer.
Standards: ISO 9001 quality certificate and load test report
